In collaboration with the UN, the Netherlands Food Partnership, and Design Academy Eindhoven, this is a speculative research project on the objective SDG 2: Zero Hunger, raised in the UN Food Systems Summit 2021.


Together with Fusani and D’Arrigo, we investigated the “cosmetic” standards on the cultivation of tomatoes imposed by the UN, the EU, and the Netherlands government. Cooperated and supported by Dutch universities, these standards shape consumers’ behaviors and expectations on a certain aesthetic degree of this mundane and dull vegetable–tomato. These standards, moverover, drive an unrealistic demand, thus, the whole supply chain locally, within Europe, and around the globe. The Netherlands is the largest tomato exporter in the world.
